The Commission has published new research looking at the process of recruiting and appointing women onto the boards of the FTSE 350 listed companies in the UK

The research carried out by Cranfield School of Management is the first in-depth study into the appointment process to corporate boards and the role of head hunters. The report identifies good practice and suggests recommendations for further action by headhunters and chairmen.
In 2012, women account for almost 16% of directors of FTSE 100 Boards but more needs to be done to increase diversity and improve corporate effectiveness.

The objective of this study was to explore whether the introduction of commissioning procedures and funding cuts were having a disadvantageous affect on the provision of women-only services.

The research consisted of two phases: a stakeholder consultation, survey of existing research and analysis of the policy context; followed by fieldwork with 25 women-only service providers including interviews with service users and funders. Service areas covered by the study included domestic violence, offenders and ex-offenders, health, sexual violence and abuse, homeless women, skills and employability support, and 'one-stop-shops' providing a range of services. Nineteen service providers were based in England, three in Scotland and three in Wales.
This research examines the recruitment practices of employers in relation to health questionnaires before a job offer is made to an applicant.
