Equality Exchange Conference 09

On June 10th 2009 the Commission welcomed members of the Wales Equality Exchange Network to its 2nd annual conference in Llandrindod Wells. The theme of the conference was ‘confidently promoting equality’ with key speakers looking at how we can keep equality high on the agenda in the economic downturn.

In the morning, Simon Minty reminded us of the fundamental values of equality which still make business sense even in these uncertain times and John Palmer from the Welsh Assembly Government, explained an innovative approach to solving entrenched problems and making changes of value to the public. In the afternoon Sharon Coleman shared her personal experience which led to a fundamental change in the law and increased protection for carers.

With 5 different workshops to attend the delegates were given tools and knowledge they could take back to the workplace. They identified key actions on postcards which the commission will mail back to them in the Autumn to remind them of their intended outcomes following the conference.

The commission will use the positive feedback from this conference to build confidence and professional expertise for equality practitioners in its planned regional events through the coming year.
