Creating a fairer Britain
Following an extensive programme of consultation and engagement we published our three-year equality scheme in April 2009 and our three-year strategic plan in July 2009.
Between November 2008 and March 2009 we carried out an extensive programme of consultation and engagement to develop our three-year strategic plan. This included involvement events for staff and stakeholders and a public on-line consultation. We received 401 contributions to the online consultation and have welcomed 784 stakeholders to events across England, Wales and Scotland. We would like to thank all those who participated for their contributions.
We analysed all of the responses we received and used these to inform the three year strategic plan. A selection of reports summarising the findings can be downloaded.
The three-year equality scheme describes how the Commission intends to fulfil its moral, social and legal obligations to put equality at the heart of everything we do. Covering the period 1 April 2009 to 1 April 2012 the scheme is closely linked to our three-year strategic plan.

Our three year grants programme is closely related to our strategic plan in terms of allocating funds to help meet our objectives. We conducted a number of consultation exercises before finalising our grants programme. Details and reports from the consultation can be dowloaded.
Following the Grants Programme Public Consultation in late 2008, we also carried out a separate Legal Grants Consultation. Over the period 2009-12 the funding programme was to have three priorities, the third of which is legal advice on equality and human rights issues. Read more about the legal funding initiative.
