The Equality Act came into force on 1 October 2010. Some of the information on this page may be out of date. We are currently writing new guidance to reflect the changes to the law.

Education should give all learners the opportunity to fulfil their potential. This means that education providers must not only be fair about who they admit to a school or college, but also that they allocate students to teaching groups fairly, assess them fairly and provide access to guidance and support fairly. They must also consider reasonable adjustments that may be needed for disabled students.
