Creating a fairer Britain
New law in forceThe Equality Act came into force on 1 October 2010. Some of the information on this page may be out of date.
Part-time work means different things to different people. Employers often define those people who work less than 'the standard working week' as part-time. Anyone who works as many as 30 hours a week could be classed as a part-timer but it will often depend on the custom and practice of each workplace. Part-time workers may face discrimination in redundancy, promotion, training, pension schemes and job benefits, pay and appraisal.
