Taking Liberties - interactive exhibition

The struggle for Britain's freedoms and rights

Taking Liberties was an exhibition at the British Library on the 900-year struggle for Britain’s freedoms and rights.  It ran from 31 October 2008 to 1 March 2009.  You can still visit their interactive online exhibition at www.bl.uk/onlinegallery/takingliberties.

The exhibition focuses on the history of civil liberties and human rights and how history relates to the situation today.  The exhibition shows the political and social struggles that have taken place in order to get where we are today, and it shows how important are the rights we now enjoy.  The exhibition also illustrates human rights in action by highlighting some recent and current debates and issues in Britain.
