Creating a fairer Britain
Maymana Arefin is 14 and goes to the Henrietta Barnett School, Hampstead was inspired to explore two equally important parts of her identity - as a teenager living in Britain as well as being from Bangladesh. The background in her mixed media piece, Where Two Worlds Meet is split in half by a black line or ‘wall’ indicating that orders and the idea of being trapped, physically and psychologically, are a running image in the piece. She comments, ‘what the two themes portray on either side is left to interpretation whether it is war and peace, rich and poor or even heaven and hell. However, one thing is certain - one shows chaos, the other, harmony.’
