Equality and Human Rights Commission

On 21 September 2010 the EU published its new five year gender strategy. This sets out five key priorities for EU action in the field of gender equality for the next five years:

1. Equal economic independence – reconciliation between work and family life
2. Equal Pay
3. Equality in decision making
4. An end to gender based violence
5. Gender equality in foreign policy

These priorities largely reflect those outlined in the EHRC’s submission to the consultation on the new strategy, carried out by the European Commission in 2009. EHRC has ongoing streams of work on the first 4 of these 5 priorities.
