Creating a fairer Britain
Jobcentre Plus was chosen in response to what appeared to be two well founded complaints made by Jobcentre Plus staff in 2006 and trade union representatives in 2007. They alleged that in two specific instances policy changes had a disproportionately adverse effect on some staff and customers, and that Jobcentre Plus had not adequately assessed and monitored the impact of some of these changes on race equality.
Following preliminary enquiries about these complaints, the Commission was concerned that the department was failing to comply fully with the public sector equality duties.
