Equality and Human Rights Commission

The Commission welcomed the nature and timing of this inquiry as it coincides with unprecedented levels of funding cuts over the coming years. The Commission is concerned that some public spending decisions may have a disproportionate effect on particular groups of people, which could if not carried out properly negatively impact on the ability of public authorities to evidence best practice in respect of the Equality Duties. We suggested that the Committee consider the value that equality policies, tools and the equality duties can contribute during a difficult financial period.
