Equal Marriage Report

The report 'Equal Access to Marriage: Ending the segregation of same-sex couples and transgender people in Scotland' was generated by the symposium.

It details the latest developments/research and opinions in Scotland, based on the presentations and discussions at the symposium event, and includes relevant external research and interviews.

Scotland currently has a segregated family law system in which marriage is available only to mixed-sex couples, and civil partnership to same-sex couples.  In England and Wales, however, the UK Government has announced public consultations on proposals to hold civil partnerships on religious premises and later, to open up marriage to same-sex couples and civil partnership to mixed-sex couples.

The Scotland Commission hope that this report will provide a springboard to moving this issue on in Scotland.
