Working with the Improvement Service, the Commission has developed a briefing note for Scottish local authority elected members, on the importance of meeting the equality duties when making financial decisions.
The briefing note has been drafted using our existing ‘Using the equality duties to make fair financial decisions’ guidance. The note highlights that elected members are required to pay ‘due regard’ to equality at the point of making their decision, and so they have a ‘scrutiny’ role to ensure that equality has been properly considered as proposals have been developed.
