  • Reduce health inequalities between socio-economic groups- especially those affecting older and younger men.

The evidence

  • Life expectancy for people from unskilled backgrounds is seven years lower than for people from professional backgrounds
  • The interaction between gender and socio-economic groups mean than a professional woman can expect to live 12 years longer than a man from an unskilled backgrounds
  • The rate of suicide is much higher for men than for women and the risk is much higher among younger age groups than older ages
