Creating a fairer Britain

I’m Michael Smith. My son Sam has been permanently excluded from our local primary school because they said he has “challenging behaviour”. Sam had autism and I agree he can be a handful! The pupil referral unit has said he needs to go to a special school, but the Council has shut a few of the special schools in our area, and have told us that there are no more places. As a result he has been off school for over a year.
Our childminder said that we should call the Equality and Human Rights Commission’s helpline for some advice, and they said that Article 2 – protocol one mentions the right to an education, which may be engaged in this situation.
You have the right not to be denied access to the educational system.
