Specific duties for Wales

As a result of the Equality Act 2010, the Welsh Assembly Government is currently consulting with stakeholders on specific equality duties for the public sector in Wales.

These specific duties will enable public authorities to implement the public sector equality duty effectively and address the greatest areas of inequality.

The Commission welcomes this consultation and you can read the response paper in the related documents on the right.

Specific duties for Wales - Listening Exercise

The Equality and Human Rights Commission welcomes the opportunity to respond to the Welsh Assembly Government Listening Exercise.

The evidence shows clearly that specific duties have made a difference in Wales. With a focus on outcomes they can deliver real benefits to service providers, service users and the public sector workforce.

The Commission's response is submitted to inform the future framework for equalities in Wales. We look forward to working with the Welsh Assembly Government and other organisations in shaping this.

Briefing Paper – Specific Public Sector Equality Duties in Wales

We have also produced a briefing paper setting out our proposals for Welsh Specific Duties. This paper is informed by evidence gathered in focus group sessions, research on the benefits of implementing the current duties, and responses to the Welsh Assembly Government Listening Exercise on specific duties for Wales.
