This section looks at your rights when using all kinds of services. These include shops, entertainment venues like restaurants and cinemas, hotels, banks and financial services, sports clubs, places of worship and public spaces.
Businesses and organisations, when providing services to people, cannot discriminate unlawfully on the grounds of their disability, race, gender, gender reassignment, religion or belief or sexual orientation. This applies whether services are provided face-to-face, by telephone or online, and whether the services must be paid for or are provided free of charge. In most cases, equality legislation does not apply to private members’ clubs. There is currently no legislation outlawing discrimination on the grounds of age in the area of goods and services.
