Sexual Orientation

New law in force

The Equality Act came into force on 1 October 2010. Some of the information on this page may be out of date.

This section of the site is about discrimination on the grounds of sexual orientation.

It deals with sexual orientation regardless of your sex or gender status. If you are looking for information about discrimination because of your gender, or because you are transgender, please visit the relevant sections.

Unlawful sexual orientation discrimination happens when someone is treated less favourably due to their sexual orientation, their perceived sexual orientation, or the sexual orientation of those they associate with.
