The Equality and Human Rights Commission Wales' annual Equality Exchange Conference was held in Llandrindod Wells on 5th June.
Making the case for mental health awareness
Around 100 delegates attended the ‘Making the case for mental health awareness’ event in November 2012, which demonstrates the relevance and high level of interest in managing mental health in the work setting.

The conference agenda was packed full of interactive workshops and exciting speakers such as Dr Jo Farrar CEO Bridgend County Council, Phil Bushby Director of HR and Estates, DVLA and Chief Constable Carmel Napier Gwent Police.
We are all engaged in driving change to promote equality and human rights and enable our organisations to deliver positive outcomes for the people of Wales. More than ever we need to plan ahead to maximise opportunities, utilise the tools available to us and meet the challenges of diminishing resources.

This set of Equality Exchange Regional events built on the specific duties workshops held in September. The day aimed to ensure that members feel confident in delivering the specific duties and using them to achieve positive outcomes.
'Hidden in plain sight' sets out the findings of our inquiry into disability related harassment: What is the impact of disability harassment on daily life? What needs to change for people to lead confident lives? How can we develop partnerships that respond effectively to harassment, support disabled people and prevent incidents in the first place?
'Domestic abuse is your business' half day conference 2011

The Welsh Government and Equality and Human Rights Commission jointly hosted a ‘domestic abuse is your business’ half day conference.
Speakers included Ann Beynon (EHRC Commissioner and Director BT Wales) Stuart McKenna (Diversity Manager for the Co-operative Group) and Jan Pickles (NSPCC Wales).
Equality Exchange Network Events - Getting started on the specific duties
On 5 April this year, the new public sector equality duty came into force covering all public authorities and those carrying out a public function, and on 6 April, specific duties for devolved public authorities in Wales also came into effect. The aim of the day was to encourage members to get started on the duties by sharing information and experience with each other.

The Wales Institute of Social and Economic Research, Data and Methods (WISERD) and the Equality and Human Rights Commission launched a groundbreaking new report An Anatomy of Economic Inequality in Wales. This event offered the opportunity to hear and discuss key findings from the report. It was chaired by Professor Teresa Rees with presentations from Kate Bennett and authors of the report.

Facts about Wales explored the findings of two landmark reports; How Fair is Wales? and Economic Inequality in Wales. Over the past generation we've seen huge steps in tackling discrimination and changing attitudes across Wales, yet our ambitions still exceed our achievements. The evidence set out in the reports will be vital in assisting all of us to assess whether policies are increasing or decreasing fairness.

Not just another statistic is a report, following research into the life experiences of Gypsy Travellers, asylum seekers and refugees, transgender people and people with a mental health condition living in Wales.

By holding a joint conference we explored what violence against women is, why violence against women is a workplace and campus issue and how we can work together to change attitudes.
United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities - What Does it Mean for Me?
The UN Convention on Rights of Persons with Disabilities was ratified by the UK Government on 8th June 2009. The Convention is the first international treaty of the 21st Century, reaffirming disabled peoples human rights and spelling out positive steps Governments are expected to take.

The Commission in Wales headed off to the National Eisteddfod in Gwynedd on August 1st for a week-long celebration of Welsh culture. With over 160,000 people attending the festival, 9000 more than last years event in Cardiff, our stand proved to be a great way of getting our message out to a new and varied audience.
