The evidence
- Life expectancy for people from unskilled backgrounds is seven years lower than for people from professional backgrounds
- The interaction between gender and socio-economic groups mean than a professional woman can expect to live 12 years longer than a man from an unskilled backgrounds
- The rate of suicide is much higher for men than for women and the risk is much higher among younger age groups than older ages
