Britain and the Convention against Torture

We submitted this report to the Committee against Torture as a follow-up to its Concluding Observations on the sixth periodic report of the UK in May 2019.

The submission focuses on:

  • accountability for any torture and ill-treatment committed by United Kingdom personnel in Iraq from 2003 to 2009, and
  • overall implementation of the Concluding Observations.

The report includes recommendations that will strengthen the UK's commitment to the international human rights framework and the Convention against Torture (CAT).
