Publication cover: The impact of welfare reform and welfare-to-work programmes, an evidence review

This report sets out the evidence used in our research project looking at the effect of tax, welfare, social security and public spending.

The evidence includes:

  • a detailed literature review
  • brief analysis of the recipients of benefits relating to the reforms
  • interviews with stakeholders

The report looks at the existing evidence of impact and the likely impact of future changes planned until the end of the current Conservative Government’s term of office in 2022.

The main aim of the review was to examine the evidence about the ways in which protected groups, have been affected by these reforms.

The review also aimed to look at gaps in the research evidence, both for particular reforms, and by protected characteristic.
